Although it is no longer statutory to record and submit the Reception Baseline to Welsh Government or Local Authorities, the importance of recording an initial assessment in order to understand your pupils and their needs has been made clear. As such, functionality has been included on the system to enable you to record an initial position for a pupil in any year group, at any point throughout the academic year.

The Curriculum for Wales is a large framework, so it may not be feasible to update pupils in all Areas of Learning within their first six weeks in your school. It is therefore down to each school to decide which aspects of the curriculum should be tracked to provide the most useful starting point.

Always make sure that you return the Track page to the current academic year when you have completed your baseline recording. This will ensure that you don’t accidentally add further updates in the wrong academic year.
